Bringing the Colors of Fall to Florida

There is something special about fall.

Growing up in New Jersey, we looked forward to it every single year. The hot summer days slowly faded away, leaves transformed into brilliant shades of gold, orange, and deep red, and cool mornings reminded us that a new season had arrived. Every drive down a country road felt different, and every walk outside seemed filled with color.

Those memories are something we still treasure today.

Living in Florida has been a wonderful adventure, but one thing we quickly realized is that our seasons don’t always announce themselves the same way. Some years we experience cooler mornings, while other years summer seems to linger much longer. We don’t always get the dramatic display of changing leaves that many people associate with autumn.

So we decided to grow our own fall.

Here at Flower Shower Farm, we’re already planning our fall harvest during the heat of summer. While most people are thinking about beach days and afternoon thunderstorms, we’re sowing seeds, transplanting young plants, and preparing our fields so they bloom just in time to welcome the fall season.

Our goal is simple—to bring the feeling of autumn into every bouquet.

This season you’ll find warm oranges, rich golden yellows, creamy whites, burgundy accents, and touches of bronze and plum woven together into arrangements that celebrate everything we love about fall.

If there’s one flower we’re especially excited to introduce this year, it’s the heirloom chrysanthemum.

Unlike many flowers that burst into bloom during spring and summer, heirloom chrysanthemums follow a different rhythm.

Throughout the summer they quietly grow, developing strong stems and an extensive root system. As the days become shorter and temperatures begin to cool, something remarkable happens—they begin to bloom just as many other summer flowers are finishing their season.

It’s almost as if they know fall has arrived.

This makes them one of the signature flowers of the autumn garden, bringing fresh color when much of the landscape is beginning to slow down.

Heirloom chrysanthemums are also cherished for their incredible diversity. Many varieties have been lovingly passed from gardener to gardener for generations, offering beautiful forms, rich colors, and old-fashioned charm that you don’t often find in grocery store bouquets.

Even better, they’re known for their excellent vase life. With clean water, a freshly trimmed stem, and regular water changes, many heirloom chrysanthemums can remain beautiful for up to two weeks, allowing you to enjoy a little piece of the season long after bringing your bouquet home.

Our fall bouquets won’t feature chrysanthemums alone.

We’ll also be harvesting cheerful zinnias, bold sunflowers, airy fillers, textured foliage, and other seasonal flowers that complement the rich colors of heirloom mums.

The combination creates bouquets that feel warm, inviting, and full of the harvest season.

Every stem is selected with the goal of bringing the beauty of autumn indoors—even here in Florida.

Growing the Seasons We Miss

Although Florida may not always give us colorful hillsides covered with changing leaves, we’ve found another way to celebrate the season.

We grow it.

Every seed planted during the summer is an investment in the beauty we’ll enjoy together during the fall months. From the first sunflower to the last heirloom chrysanthemum, each bloom is part of creating that cozy feeling of crisp mornings, pumpkin patches, warm drinks, and gathering with family.
